The various tourist attractions in Solan are Barog, Kasauli, Chail, Sholoni Devi Temple, Bon Monastery, Parwanoo, Kiarighat, Darlaghat, Karol Tibba and Jatoli Shiv Temple.

 

Barog is situated about 8 km from Solan and 37 km from Kalka. Barog is situated at the height of 1600 m. From Barog one can have a panoramic view of Churdhar Peak (3647 m) also known as the Mountain of the Silver Bangle. Barog was an important stop on the Kalka-Shimla railway line in the earlier part of the century. Now it has longest tunnel on Shimla Kalka narrow gauge railway line. The major attraction in Barog is the Barog height resort situated at the top of the hill, which offer the picturesque view of the surrounding area.

 

The Sholoni Devi temple is situated at the southern part of the town. This temple is dedicated to the goddess Sholoni Devi after which Solan got its name.

Bodh Monastery (Yung Drung Ling) 

Bodh Monastery is about 12 kms from Solan. This monastery is the second oldest monastery in the world.

 

Karol Tibba has a historic value as Pandavas lived here during their `Agyatvas` period. One has to cover a 2 hours trek from Solan to reach this place. This wonderful place is an ideal place for nature lovers.

Jatoli Shiv Temple

The Jatoli Shiv Temple is a very old temple in Solan. An annual fair is organised here every year on the occasion of Mahashivratri.

 

77 kms. from Shimla and 35 kms. from Kalka, at 1927 metres is Kasauli, a quaint little town that reminds one of the 19th century. Its colonial ambience is reinforced by cobbled paths, quaint shops, gabled houses with charming facades and neat little gardens and orchards. Kasauli is surrounded by a mixed forest of chir-pine, Himalyan oak and huge horse-chestnuts. Its narrow roads lither up and down the hillsides and offer some magnificent vistas. You can get vantage views from Monkey Point, 4 kms. from the bus stand.

 

Chail, situated about 43 kms. from Shimla and with a lush green setting, was the former `summer capital` of the Patiala state. At 2250 metres it has the world`s highest cricket pitch and a polo ground. The old palace, now a hotel, and angling are added attractions.
